Review of on Natural Selection by Charles Darwin

I have been researching great thinkers and how they have shaped the world. I have also been trying to prove that the act of reading helps to generate or even stimulate great ideas. Great thinkers do not operate within a vacuum, they rely on the works of others, and often expand the original thought and take the world further. Charles Darwin and British biologist Alfred Russel Wallace independently arrived at similar theories of Natural Selection in the mid-1800s after reading Essay on the Principle of Population by British pastor Thomas Malthus.

Darwin defines natural selection as the “preservation of favourable variations and the rejection of injurious variation.” So what does this all mean? Darwin further adds, “Variations neither useful nor injurious would not be affected by natural selection, and would be left a fluctuating element, as perhaps we see in the species called polymorphic… Natural selection can act only by taking advantage of slight variations; she can never take a leap, but must advance by the shortest steps.”

This book wasn’t the easiest to read, and I found it quite “dry”. But, in my quest to find out where really good ideas come from, I made the sacrifice and slogged through it. I have selected fives ideas from On Natural Selection. For the five ideas below, how can you use them in different contexts to resolve/understand modern day problems?

Five Good Ideas

  1. When a plant or animal is placed in a new country amongst new competitors, though the climate may be exactly the same as its former home, yet the conditions of its life will generally be changed in an essential manner. If we wished to increase its average numbers in its new home, we should have to modify it in a different way to what we should have done in its native country; for we should have to give it some advantage over a different set of competitors or enemies.
  2. Individuals having any advantage, however slight, over others, would have the best chance of surviving and of procreating their kind
  3. When a species, owing to highly favourable circumstances, increases inordinately in numbers in a small tract, epidemics often ensue
  4. The more diversified the descendants from any one species become in structure, constitution, and habits, by so much will they be better enabled to seize on many and widely diversified places in the polity of nature, and so be enabled to increase in numbers
  5. Natural selection is working behind the scenes all the time throughout the world whenever the opportunity arises. It works to improve each organic being in relation to its organic and inorganic conditions of life. You cannot see these slow changes taking place, until after a long period of time has elapsed, we see that the forms of life are now different from what they formerly were

We could take idea number two and look at it in the context of education. It’s a reasonable assumption to make that people who are more educated have a better chance of succeeding than those who have less education. Or, for that same idea, we could say, someone who has an idea and knows how to take action, will be more successful than someone who has ideas but do nothing about them. Success in this context is not restricted to financial success. Why don’t you take one of the above five ideas and see what new ideas you can generate?

I recommend On Natural Selection because I am sure that you will come up with your own five ideas. This is not a book that you would read for entertainment, but it will certainly stretch you.

That Little Itch Is Telling Your Haptic Neuronal Nerve Endings Something – Listen Up

Itching can drive you up the wall, and scratching can lead to permanent damage if you don’t control yourself. Why does this happen to us humans? Well, we aren’t the only ones are we? It turns out that all mammals that we know about have to deal with this, along with birds, and other creatures as well. How does it work? Well, that’s the thing, until recently there was a huge debate of how, even if the scientists have agreed long ago, that it is was an evolutionary need for the organism.

Remember our bodies are interconnected with neurons, nerves, and a whole sensory network. Now then, there was an interesting article in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute magazine Spring 2013 edition “Itching to Be Discovered – Skin Deep Receptor in Nerve Cells Senses Itch” by Nicole Kresge. It turns out that the research there has discovered what all this is about, how nerve cells detect itch and pain – it’s the same process. The itch is telling us that there is something wrong, damage is or has been done. Scratching away the surface of the skin can remove the invading problem.

Indeed, I’ve always assumed that itches were caused by excess vibrational energy at the nerve endings, more energy than is needed for optimum haptic networking under the skin. Itching might also be a pre-cursory warning of pre-damage to nerve endings – poisons, toxins, or too much boosted elevated energy, perhaps too much heat, as you feel getting into a hot bath or Jacuzzi for instance. Some illegal substances are said to have an itching effect, as the body deals with these toxins. Some folks tell of over sensory perception, which is highly possible as a mechanism exhibiting the same conditions as described in the article and subsequent research report.

It turns out that the neurons in the skin only sense itch, not pain, and they were able to prove this through experimentation. So now the scientists “have pinpointed the nerve fibers responsible for itch, and they will look for a molecule to block the receptors” and once they do, they can create a cream to stop itching all together. Meaning, patients after sensitive skin operations will not itch those areas leading to permanent damage.

People complain that when they are too close to radar antennas, microwaves, or other devices that they feel an itching sensation. Could it be over stimulating those neuronal sensors, nerves and telling us there is damage being done, are those nerve fibers being activated involuntarily – interesting questions and very fascinating science indeed. Please think on this.

Homo Entropicus and the Human Condition

The collapsing of the 20th Century scientific science of life worldview is now obvious. That world-view, governed by Einstein’s ‘Premier law of all science’, the ‘Universal heat death Law’, now embraces life-science concepts based upon fractal logic. Life-science now extends to a fractal infinity, rather than obeying the concept that all life in the universe must be condemned to a universal heat death extinction. Nanotechnology has revealed the functioning of fractal logic within the DNA responding to evolutionary information that has written the obituary of the horrific sentence of continual chaos that has been imposed upon global society for centuries.

For example. quantum biology scientists, Casati, Guaneri and Maspero from the International Centre for the Study of Dynamical Systems, in Italy, have been researching fluctuations of survival probability in an open quantum system. Now that the newly emerging quantum biological life-science chemistry has been rigorously associated with the Platonic world-view philosophy, as published by the NASA High Energy Astrophysics Division Library, an ancient crude human survival map reveals itself. As ‘the human condition’ holds the survival blueprint for humanity, this article asks, can the ancient map play a role to help upgrade the fractal model for environmental survival into a new practical medical science?

Medical scientists Tambasco, Eliasziw and Magliocco, have applied fractal analysis to breast cancer, categorising patients according to a scale of low, intermediate and high fractal dimension. Their findings argued that such medical methodology was more relevant for survival than the methodology used by standard prognosticators. From this observation it can be reasoned that fractal logic is the key to human well being. A life-energy discovery, selected for reprinting in 1990 by the world’s largest technological research institute, Washington’s IEEE SPIE Milestone Series, fully endorses that proposal.

During the 1980s two mathematical life-science papers, from the Science-Art Research Centre of Australia, now considered to have been based upon fractal logic geometrical logic, demonstrated that seashell evolution was governed by new physics forces governing optimum biological growth and development through space-time. A peer review investigation over of the Centre’s claim that the 20th Century world-view had been based upon false physics assumptions, was undertaken in 1997 by the United Nations University Millennium Project, Australasian Node. In 2010, Dr Paul Wildman, the Chair to that investigation, stated in writing that the President of the Institute for Basic research in the USA had observed from the published discovery, that the 20th Century scientific world-view was unable to generate healthy biological growth and development simulations through space-time, which gives credence to the above mentioned medical life-science findings.

Fractal geometry, which evolved out of chaos theory, can be described as self similarity at infinite scales. It is a dynamical system that balances order with complexity. Without order, increasing complexity becomes chaotic and malfunctions. Disease can be considered to be an entropic human malfunction. By upgrading the original Platonic life-science guidance map,well-being, on the other hand, is our natural human condition.

The healthy human appears to reflect a fractal wholeness down to sub-atomic particle movement dimensions. Sir Isaac Newton’s unpublished heresy papers, discovered last century, expressed such a fractal world-view, in which a “more profound natural philosophy existed to balance the mechanical (entropic) description of the universe”, based upon the principles of particle movement. That world-view completely challenges the logic upholding the now obsoltete 20th Century world-view. The former, derived from the Platonic life-science world-view, is important. It is consistent with the new Platonic-Fullerene fractal life science Chemistry now emerging throughout the world, in particular as the forte of the University of Florence’s prize winning New Measurement of Humanity Renaissance Project chemistry.

The idea of a Life Force that extends to infinity, has been common to many cultures for millennia, as the source of energy that promotes health and well being. The Chinese call it Chi; in India it is referred to as Prana. Today it is called quantum bio-energy, the auric force field, vortex energy and in many other terms. In the world of physics it is known as scalar or subtle energy and has also been referred to as time-reversed waves, non-hertzian waves, longitudinal waves, scalar waves, or zero-point energy.

In answering our question, what role does fractal logic play in the human condition survival data, the answer can be considered to be that, fractal logic is crucial in order to effect healthy human survival futuristic progression. The sooner humanity embraces the importance of fractal logic in our lives, the more chance Homo Entropicus has of making it to the next evolutionary level.
